Free PR Resources
We believe that organisations of all sizes can harness and benefit from PR. However, we’re also very aware that not every organisation has budget available to take on the services of a PR agency so here are some fabulous FREE opportunities for you to take advantage of and start your PR journey.
Good luck and do let us know how you get on!
Please Note: RDZ PR is not paid to speak well of or recommend ANY of the following free PR resources. Those we share below are mentioned because either we’re using them ourselves or our clients are/have used them and spoken well about them.
Help a Reporter Out (HARO)
HARO connects journalists seeking expertise to include in their content with sources who have that expertise. They support over 75,000 journalists and bloggers and you will be notified of opportunities in your field for FREE. Media opportunities are delivered to your inbox three times a day from journalists looking for source requests relevant to your industry, area of expertise and/or personal experience. All you need to do is quickly respond to them and if the journalist is interested they’ll reach out to you!
GoogleAlerts
Google Alerts enables you to track any online mention of your brand via the world's newspapers, magazines and publications. Creating an alert via the platform is super easy – all you need to do is add your brand name or topic and you'll get news alerts either as they happen, once a day or once a week – it's up to you.
Media.Info
This free platform has been around since 1994 and can still be a reliable resource for finding UK media contacts (although sometimes a little outdated). It's a good starting point if you're after someone's details enabling you to search through over 6,000 media titles across radio, television, newspapers and magazines.
PitchRate
PitchRate says, “Build media connections that make a difference, for free”. PitchRate is a media alert service that fires out daily emails including a wealth of media opportunities. If you want to respond to anything you will have to send your pitch in via their website.
JournoRequests
Sign up to the Basic free plan and you'll get a daily digest of PR opportunities delivered straight to your inbox. UK-based only – although that might change in future – JournoRequests is free forever but, if you subscribe, you can get ahead of the rest with loads of Premium features.
PRHunters
PR Hunters promises to save you hours of time searching for PR leads by emailing opportunities shared by journalists on Twitter. Sign up for free, select your relevant topics and keyword alerts and you'll receive a daily summary!
SubjectLine
If you want to know if your email subject line is working simply copy and paste your text into SubjectLine and it will give you a score out of 100. You'll get one free attempt before the tool asks you to register.
Hemingway App
The Hemingway App highlights lengthy, complex sentences and common errors. If you see a yellow sentence, for instance, you should shorten or split it. If you see a red highlight your sentence is so dense and complicated that your readers will get lost trying to follow its meandering, splitting logic; try editing this sentence to remove the red! An excellent tool for any of us who are prone to waffle.
