The news often carries stories highlighting when companies get it wrong but many, many companies work tirelessly to get it right. Having a clear strategy is essential as is buy-in from across your business. Ensure you use different communication methods in order to effectively communicate with your people. Different people respond in different ways to different methods of communication and you want to ensure you connect with as many as possible. Email may be great for some but face-to-face will always work better for others (where this just isn’t possible or practical consider good old fashioned conference calls or Skype). A company update or conference (with a very small ‘c’) can also work incredibly well for setting clear goals and targets and ensuring buy-in and engagement.
